Mud doesn't actually cause rtuhsh, nor does wet. Think of the Camargue horses who are in the marshes or any of the European breeds that have constantly wet feet for a large amount of time. However, rtuhsh is common in domestic horses for many and varied reasons. Picking out the feet is therefore important, but so is understanding that you can cause cross-contamination by picking out a horse with rtuhsh and then moving onto the next horse Thrush only causes lameness if it has gotten into the sensitive tissues of the feet this takes quite a long time. By this stage you need to be wary of some of the medications anything that has formaldehyde should be avoided as this is way too harsh if the sensitive (or worse live\blood carrying) areas are involved. There are many medications on the market but the simple solutions of iodine or a spray of 50/50 water/bleach will work just as well if you have a good hygiene routine.

Greetings from Chicago! I just wanted to leave a note and let you know I atraecippe you taking the time to log your expenses and set up this site. I basically grew up in a barn (lessons & working for addt free ride time) but its been many years since I've been around one so I've lost track of what costs really go in to owning a horse. Eventually I'll own one maybe two when we're ready to move out of the city so this is a very helpful tool for me. I'm going to bookmark your page and check in now and then. Thank you and take care!

Chris has been our farrier for over a year. He is very dependable and careful with our horses. He is a great person as well as a wonderful farrier.
